Native English-speaking teachers with a Cambridge-based curriculum
The sentence should be “Under the guidance of our well-prepared and internationally experienced native English-speaking teachers, you will learn English very well, and be able to communicate confidently in both written and spoken English.
You can learn English by having fun, not by memorizing facts from a textbook
Our English instruction is done at a high professional level, yet in a playful and entertaining manner. You will learn English through discussing interesting topics that are engaging to teachers and students alike. It develops your critical thinking skills and encourages individual thought.
You’re good at English
You have a great relationship with the English language and you are motivated enough to bring out the best in yourself. One of your goals is to pass a language exam, or to study abroad, or you can imagine continuing your studies in a foreign language.
You struggle with English
You and English are not on good terms, but you must admit that having good English skills would be useful in your further studies, and in achieving your goals, so you’ve decided you have to make a change. An encouraging community, a great native English-speaking teacher and an innovative teaching method can make all the difference.
You can join at any time
If you’re not a total beginner, you can join our courses at any time. After a free placement test, we can determine which is the appropriate level for you, and depending on space availability, you can start taking our courses during the year as well.
We study in small groups
In our groups of maximum 12 students, everyone gets individual and focused attention. This creates a supportive atmosphere where every student can progress effectively with the curriculum.
Financially less burdening
Investing in knowledge is the most rewarding investment. One advantage of the afternoon school is that overall it costs less than attending a bilingual private school.
Our classes take place in the afternoon
Our classes are held in the afternoon, so they are easy to fit into your daily routine. Our English language lessons are held twice a week for 105 minutes, whereas our Find My Direction program takes place once a week for 90 minutes.
Being part of a great community
We provide a kind and friendly atmosphere, where teachers, students and parents can consider each other partners.
Easy to access
Our lessons take place at two locations, both of which are easy to access even with public transportation. Most of our students come to lessons with this method of transport, so this doesn’t burden parents with the responsibility of taxiing their children to school.
What ESB is like, according to our students
When the idea of ESB was born, our founder Andy Thompson imagined a school where children would feel good, be open to the world, would listen to and support each other, dare to share their opinions, not see learning as a hassle, and last but not least love their teachers.
We’re happy to have you! Introducing the Leadership and teachers
Andy Thompson
I founded the English School of Budapest (ESB) in 2010 when it became clear for my Hungarian wife, for me and for many other parents, that it would be difficult to provide good affordable English education for our children alongside the Hungarian school system.
An English friend of mine (you know who you are) had just moved to Hungary from Paris, where her children had attended a school that offered English lessons every Wednesday based on the English curriculum. She and other teachers suggested starting a a similar school in Budapest, and the rest is history…
I have five children, all of whom have attended international, bilingual and state schools in Budapest. In a way each option involved compromises. With ESB, our goal is to create an environment where neither children nor parents need to compromise.
If you’d like to contact me, I’d be happy to hear from you! I hope we’ll have the chance to meet in the future.
Vizi Nóra, Director
I’m responsible for the overall operation of ESB. This includes communicating with parents and managing financial processes, including payments.
Regarding my qualifications, I have a specialized degree in law and economics and earned an MBA from Corvinus University. I have many years of experience in finance and administration. I started my career at multinational companies, then moved into education management. Having lived abroad for 16 years, I completely understand how crucial it is to speak English.
I look forward to your application and am happy to provide further information about our school and our courses.
Örömmel fogadom a jelentkezéseteket és adok további információt az iskolával és a kurzusainkkal kapcsolatban.
Andy: "So what we've done in response is we're now actually providing some of those university courses... "
Marcel: I' am going to talk about additional benefits to learning English through our classes."
Dave: "One reason I enjoy teaching at ESB is because we have a mix of Hungarian and international students. ..."
Megan: "I really hope to inspire the next generation and the students..."
Eszter: "The program exists not only so that we can help students create applications and prepare the materials necessary for university applications, but..."
Lóránt: "I love both my professions. ..."
Anikó: "And I can't wait to help you dive into this new science..."
Brigitta: "Because economics is behind each and every decision we make, ..."
Dóra: "I hope I can give you some valuable information throughout our courses."

Our daughter is 6 years old, and this is her first year at ESB. She loves her lessons and her teacher Ms. Marcel too. She always comes out of the lessons happy , uplifted and full of energy. She talks in detail about what happened that day. She does her short homework assignments with enthusiasm as well. To us it is just as important that she can learn in a cheerful and relaxed environment as it is for her to progress academically, and we believe we have found an excellent school and community for this at ESB.
It’s a high quality, child centered English school, where my children have not only learned English, but also come to love it. Aside from how communicative the lessons are, my oldest child was able to pass a language exam after only two years at ESB. I recommend this school!

Lukács Tünde
A brilliant English course with native English-speaking teachers who teach presentation skills, reading comprehension, and writing, while constantly motivating children to speak only English with each other. This way even students starting as complete beginners can manage anything abroad, feel confident enough to speak up, and have conversations with English-speaking children, after 2 years with little or no homework.
